This 3-day course is designed for current LightTools users who want to be more productive with LightTools. The course includes lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on computer workshop sessions.

Learn how features like ray path analysis, region analysis, and backward and hybrid ray tracing help you to get the most out of each simulation ray.

In this course, the topics covered are:

  • Data Manipulation and Analysis using COM Macros
  • Advanced Design Module: "Functional" Geometry
  • Advanced Geometry: TOCS, Freeform, and Swept Entities
  • Stray Light, Ray Paths, and Filters
  • Backward and Hybrid Simulation
  • Advanced Color Analysis

Course Information

Classes begin at 8:30 a.m. and end at 5:30 p.m., except on the last day when class ends at 4:30 p.m. Computers are provided for attendees. Attendees wishing to work independently are welcome to bring their own laptop and will receive a $300 discount on their registration. 

Laptops must have Microsoft® Excel® installed as a PC application (if using a Mac, each must be running as a Windows application). For additional information, please see the LightTools hardware/operating system requirements.

Anyone who uses LightTools now and wishes to use it more effectively or who wants to learn more about LightTools’ advanced features will benefit from this course. Familiarity with LightTools, basic LightTools COM, and basic programming experience is assumed.

Registration and Fees
The fee for this short course is $1,200 ($1,000 if attendee provides his/her own laptop computer). This includes instruction, computer resources, course notes, lunch on three days and refreshments. 

Attendance is limited, though minimum enrollments must be met. Pre-registration with payment must be made at least three weeks before the start of the courses. The fee is refundable up to that point. (A $200 fee is charged for later cancellations.)

Course Instructors

Mary Kate Crawford, Ph.D. is a Senior Application Engineer in Customer Service. Dr. Crawford provides technical support for both LightTools and CODE V and has over 10 years optical design experience.

Mali Maliyagoda is a Senior Optical Engineer/Technical Consultant in Customer Service. Mr. Maliyagoda provides technical support for LightTools and has over 8 years experience in illumination design. 

Craig Pansing is a Lead CAE with over 9 years of experience. He provides technical support for CODE V and LightTools.
